In 2018 Don Williamson, the former Lionhead lead engine programmer, tweeted that he knew of a studio working on Fable 4, though he has since deleted the tweet. We’d suspect that Playground Games, the developer behind Forza Horizon 4, has been working on Fable 4 for some time and that it’s potentially mid-way through its development. We’d hazard a guess that it will arrive sometime towards the end of this year or early 2022. But that game is likely years away, so we’re not sure Spencer’s comments mean a great deal. However, Spencer did note that Fable 4 will be out way before The Elder Scrolls 6.
Since then, we’ve not heard a great deal abut Fable 4 through the grapevine, let alone official sources. But thanks to Herve Gengler, a senior games designer working on Fable 4 at Playground Games, we were given the impression that the game won’t be coming out for a couple of years. This isn’t hugely surprising given there was no game footage shown off. While the trailer of Fable 4 served its purpose to build up hype around the game, it looks like it’s still a long way off.

So that’s a strong indication that the ForzaTech engine, seen in Forza Horizon 4 and presumably the upcoming Forza Horizon 5, will underpin Fable 4 and the open-world setting it’s likely to have.

In other Fable 4-related news, Cyberpunk 2077 senior gameplay designer Paweł Kapała has joined Fable 4 developer Playground Games and will be responsible for “designing and implementing Combat in Fable.”įurthermore, a Turn10 Studios’ job posting from earlier this year was looking for a software engineer to work on the ForzaTech engine, with the job advert having noted that: “In addition to adding new features like raytracing to support the next console generation, we are also enriching the toolset to support an open world action RPG – Fable.” We’d be some what skeptical about the veracity of this leak, as Microsoft has Xbox Cloud Gaming, its own steaming services, and if Fable 4 is going to be streamed anywhere it’ll be on that. There’s not be much bubbling away on the Fable 4 rumors side of late, but the game was reportedly mentioned in a some Nvidia GeForce Now leaked information, in which Fable 4 was flagged as a potential title that could be put on the game streaming platform.
